Eight acoustic guitars, 16 hands, 48 strings, 80 fingers and a singular sound - Bartok, fused with King Crimson, by way of Philip Glass, punctuated with jazz and rock, The Guitar Circle New England aspires to make itself available to the benevolent presence of music, in service of the greater good and for your listening enjoyment. In this pursuit, members follow the principles of Guitar Craft, most having studied with its founder, Robert Fripp.

Bridging musical worlds, The Guitar Circle New England brings a sense of immediacy to its performances, playing new music, composed, improvised, and born of the listening of the audience. An evening with the Circle is a unique experience shaped and shared by all who are present.

The first meeting of the original circle project was held on Saturday, October 7th 2000 at 10:30 AM. Most of the members attended the Guitar Craft course held in Lebanon New Jersey, September 2000.

The first period of activity ran out of steam mid-2001. Click here for the old minutes.

The second period of activity began on Sunday June 16th, 2002 and completed on Sunday August 17, 2003. It took the form of a repertoire project, led by Victor McSurely.

A calisthenics project began in September of 2003 and finished in January of 2004

Currently the GCNE is currently addressing 3 lines of work in an ongoing way.
1stly to provide support for people with guitar craft and new standard tuning experience. Experience shows that working in a collective way speeds progress and diminishes several constraints.
2ndly to provide information and instruction. The circle is lead by Victor McSurely who has a good deal of experience in the new standard tuning, in addition as the years have gone by the number of circle members with information and guidance to offer has grown.
3rdly to provide service. The circle makes itself available as a way for music to change the world. Those interested in events where this takes place should look at the GCNE calendar.
